Sustainable fashion and its relationship with climate change, everyone talks about this, but
what does sustainable fashion mean?
Sustainable fashion is about the creation of clothing that is made with totally natural raw materials, that is, grown with organic farming. These materials can be cotton, vegetable fibers, linen or silk. There are many, or almost all, the advantages of wear this type of clothing.
What are the advantages of sustainable fashion?
Benefits and advantages of sustainable fashion
The environmental impact is reduced: by consuming products that are made with natural or recycled materials and without using large machinery, in this way the environmental impact is being considerably reduced, therefore, the impact on climate change is slowed down.
At present, one of the main concerns in today’s society and of clothing manufacturers in the world is the care and preservation of the environment, as well as it’s natural resources.
What we can do to improve the conditions of the planet we live on?
Although there is no single or exact answer, there are different options to contribute in some way to this initiative that is manifested globally.
What is sustainable fashion?
It is a trend generated from design, it seeks to create and develop a product that considers the environmental and social impact that it can generate in its life cycle. Consider the carbon footprint at the time of its manufacture, materials used and the process by which its production is carried out in general.
The main characteristic of sustainable fashion is the efficient use of natural resources, considering the reuse of raw materials and processes to eliminate water pollution that is generated from the dyeing of textiles. We do not use chemicals to fix colors in our dyeing processes.
It is estimated that the fashion industry is responsible for an approximate percentage of 4% to 10% of the greenhouse gas emissions that occur annually. The use of natural raw materials is important for the manufacture of sustainable clothing
In the production area of Anicy Manuguian, we use the following Natural Fibers in our designs
Baby Alpaca, Pima Cotton and Viscose Rayon
Baby Alpaca
Baby alpaca is a 100% natural luxury fiber that has certain characteristics. It is hypoallergenic and very light. It adapts to body temperature and will keep you warm, but at the same time it is dry and repels water. It is a very strong thread.
The vicuña and the alpaca are two animals of the camelid family that inhabit the heights of the Andes in Peru, Bolivia and Chile. They are found at more than 4,500 meters of altitude and were domesticated by the Incas, who raised them as cattle. Of the two, the vicuña produces a wool with better properties, but it is also an endangered species, which is why it is protected.
Alpaca wool is appreciated for its elasticity and resistance. It is also quite light. It is thermal in nature, which means that it maintains the body’s natural temperature. Another recognized property is the resistance to fire, unless it is directly exposed.
Alpaca wool does not accumulate dust and is water repellent. It is difficult to get dirty as it has a thin natural layer of lanolin that makes it waterproof. Odors do not permeate into the garment. All these properties make it a very durable yarn. This elegance and finesse make any product made with it a true jewel and a luxury in the world market.
Pima Cotton
Peruvian Pima cotton is the finest and longest fiber in the world. It has a special shine and is soft to the touch. Despite being a long, fine fiber, Pima cotton is stronger than virtually all other cottons, so more durable garments can be made.
This cotton was woven universally throughout South America and the West Indies, where it was introduced by Christopher Columbus. Cotton was grown on slave plantations in the West Indies. The combination of seeds, soil and microclimate have made Peruvian Pima cotton the finest and longest fiber in the world.
When properly processed, it has a special shine and is smooth to the touch. Despite being a long, fine fiber, Pima cotton is stronger than virtually all other cottons, so more durable garments can be made.
Viscose Rayon
Viscose rayon is a previously solubilized and subsequently regenerated cellulose fiber. It is a very versatile fiber and has the same properties in terms of wearing comfort as other natural fibers. The fabric, the viscose rayon, has an excellent yarn. Its fabrics can imitate the touch of silk, linen and cotton. Like silk or cotton, viscose is extracted from nature and has the same wearing properties in terms of comfort.
The fibers can easily be dyed in other colors. Viscose fabrics are soft, light, fresh, comfortable and highly absorbent, allowing perspiration. Therefore they are ideal for hot and humid climates.
Sustainable luxury is a new look at luxury with a social conscience and respect for the environment.
“We invite you to experience sustainable and conscious fashion… that fashion where luxury is in the nobility and quality of the materials, extracted in an artisanal and sustainable way. Processes carried out by hand with unique ancestral techniques that create pieces that will accompany you throughout your life”.
